National Cadet Corps (army Wing) Unit was established in the College in the year 1984. It is under the Command and Control of 21 Karnataka Battalion NCC Udupi. In the beginning, the Unit was allowed to enroll SD Cadets and from 2005 onwards permission was granted to enroll SW Cadets. Capt. Sandeepa.K, Assistant Professor in Commerce is an Associate NCC Officer of the NCC Unit.

Major H. Jagadish, Associate Professor in Commerce was the first Associate NCC Officer of the Unit. Major H. Jagadish served for more than 26 years and retired on  31st July 2011 after attaining Superannuation.

 Aim of the Unit:

  1. To develop the all-round personality of the young students and make them ideal citizens of the country.
  2. To provide Military training to the students and make them available to meet National emergencies.
  3. To provide training to the cadets and develop in them officer-like qualities so as to enable them to get a commission in the armed forces.
  4. To train the students to appear for the ‘B’ Certificate Examination at the end of the second year and the ‘C’ Certificate Examination at the end of the third year of the training.

 Authorized strength:

The authorized strength of the unit is 52. Since 2005 the Unit is authorized to enroll SW Cadets (for Women Students). At present, the enrolled strength consists of 41 SD Cadets and 11 SW Cadets. A Cadet enrolled will be in NCC training for a period of 3 years.

Camps:

All the Cadets enrolled are required to attend at least two camps in order to be eligible to take the ‘B’ and ‘C’ Certificate Examinations. Apart from the Annual Training Camps, Cadets are sent for special camps at Group, Directorate, and National Level Camps ( National Integration, Army Attachment, Trekking, Advanced Leadership, and Basic Leadership Camps). One of our Cadets Sgt. Suchendra N Chandan attended the Tal Sainik Camp in New Delhi in 2006 and represented not only the College the entire Directorate of Karnataka and Goa.

NCC under National Education Policy (NEP):

Under NEP NCC is one of the extracurricular activities for which the cadets are entitled to get credit in their Under Graduate Courses. In each Semester up to the fourth semester, each student who is in NCC is entitled to get a maximum mark of 25.

Community Programmes:

As a part of Community Development programmes NCC cadets are encouraged to participate in the following activities.

  1. Tree Plantation – every year the sapling is planted in and around College Campus and every cadet is issued free saplings to plant at their own places.
  2. Aids Awareness Programmes conducted in Basrur.
  3. Anti-Terrorism Rally organized in Basrur and Kundapur Town.
  4. To remove the menace of plastic the cadets organized the ‘Pick Plastic’ movement in Basrur.
  5. Every year Blood Donation Camp is organized and Cadets are encouraged to donate blood to save the life at the District Blood Bank Udupi.
  6. One Day Social work conducted at Panchagangavali, Kundapur Tq to promote Tourism in Coastal Karnataka.
  7. Adult Education Programme conducted in College.
  8. South India Cycle Expedition.
  9. Cycling cum Trekking from Basrur to Kodachadri.
  10. Cycle expedition Programme from Basrur to Sringeri (2012).
  11. Swatch Bharath Abhiyan.
  12. Startup India.
  13. Save Girl Child Roadshow.
  14. Health and Safety Programme.
  15. Fit India Campaign.
  16. Aatma Nirbhar Bharath campaign.
  17. Drug awareness programme.
  18. Cancer awareness programme.
