SRI SHARADA YAKSHAGANA STUDY CENTRE

Sri Sharda Yakshagana Centre was founded in 1975 under the direction of    Dr. Sridhara uppoora  Associate Professor , Department of Kannada. The college provided a platform for many stage plays, workshops, seminars and demonstrations of  Yakshagana . This centre itself is a training centre in the traditional  art  of Yakshagana and interested students of our college are selected every year for the centre . There is a Yakshagana Committee of students headed by a teacher who is in charge of the centre. The training imparted includes dance steps, music  etc. Training is imparted for young enthusiastic students in the form of a theatre art. The trained artistes formed out a troupe every year and perform many stage plays especially during annual day celebrations, Talents’ Day , NSS Camps , NAAC Peer Team visits and other occasions . Centre started a Certificate Course in Yakshagana with prescribed syllabus which was developed by Dr. Sridhara Uppoor and   Prof. Purushothama Balyaya. This certificate course framed for 30 hours and students are evaluated at the end of the course with Grades. Their performance is also evaluated during stage play.

Swami Vivekananda Study Centre

Swami Vivekananda Study Centre has been functioning to create awareness on spiritual and human values among our students. Sri Raghavendra Shetty, HOD of History, is the coordinator of the study center. A Spiritual and Moral Retreat Programme was organized on 13th Jan. 2018. Swami Dharmavrathananda, Sri Ramakrishna Matt, Mangalore delivered a guest-lecture on “Importance Ethical Values in Students’ life” at the occasion.

Sri Pradeep Kumar Basrur ,  Local Member, 

Archaelogical Inscriptions Recording and Study Centre was established in the college campus with a novel idea of preservation , protection and recording of ancient archaelogical inscriptions , statues and idols of Basrur and nearby areas . This centre was also aims at  developing research environment in the college and inculcate research habit among students especially in respect of Ancient History and Archaelogy.

ACTIVITIES:

  1. An ancient statue that dates back 8th century , was found near Margoli area of Basrur village. Purushothama Balyaya , Co-ordinator of the centre and An enthusiast  and honarary instructor of cetificate course in Archaelogy ,  Mr. Pradeep Kumar Basrur sighted this statue of Brahma .This idol was in dipiated form and found nearby a depiated old chitteri ( worship place of Brhma).

Prof.  Purushothama Balyaya , identified this idol and that dates back 8th century. The idol was classified as Tulu Brahma based on  its resemblance and that is first type ever found in these area. Near by area of this idol, Naga stones are also available. Recently,after identification of Brhama idol , a new temple was build for Brahma in that particular area.

  1. Purushothama Balyaya, Prof. B. Bhaskara Shetty, Retired Professor in Economics and Sri Pradeep Kumar Basrur sighted ancient Archaelogical Inscription near Kanyana , Kundapura Taluk. This inscriptions was estimated to be  belonging to 7th or 8th  century .
  1. Centre brought a Garuda Idol ( at an average 500 years old) which is donated by Basrur Sri Venkataramana Temple and handed it to Sri Sharada College Museum.

ANTHARPRERANA – INCUBATION CENTRE FOR START-UP

OBJECTIVE

Presently,  India has rich demographic dividend in the form of large number of young population. India is called Young India and this benefit shall have to be optimally  utilized for the betterment of the nation. Entrepreneurship is such an important area where large number of youth population can be converted into productive population. The Government of India and Government of Karnataka are striving for the development of youth by bringing structured reforms in ease of doing business.  Start-up in India, Make in India, Stand-up India are the new initiatives brought up by Both Central Government and State Government to encourage young generation.

ABOUT THE CENTRE

Our College started ANTHARPRERANA- An Incubation Centre for start-up to cater the needs of our students who are belonging to rural area and making them an innovative entrepreneur.  Apart from educating them in this respect,  Start-up centre conducts field survey to encourage the students to undertake  research activities. Our college stared this centre to encourage the students and local youth so that they are equipped to become financial independent and to facilitate better quality of life and living standard.

  3. Encouraging and motivating interested students to prepare projects related to their interested area.
